Research and development strategy

As part of the technology innovator, IHC Merwede, IHC D&A continuously invests in research and development across its key disciplines, which include four areas of focus:

1. Variable frequency drives

Transfer the beneficial features of IHC D&A’s low-voltage variable frequency drives to medium- and high-voltage drives. This activity will meet several restraints due to the requirements of additional isolation and interference, but these are being addressed.

2. Requirements for deep dredging

Match all depth and power requirements coming up in the field of modern deep dredging, alluvial mining and deep-sea mineral mining. This will involve the development of both air- and oil filled – or whatever-filled – motors, working far beyond what are currently considered as fixed limitations.

3. Cost efficient design

Involvement in IHC Merwede’s cost-efficient design system to provide both the dredging and offshore markets with modularised and standardised, cost-effective and sustainable, operational vessels. IHC D&A’s contribution focuses of course on electrical, automation, intelligence and power integration aspects.

4. Trendwatching

Watch and analyse trends and opportunities for the incorporation of the latest technological developments in IHC D&A’s designs.
